The opportunities of Sughd FEZ were presented in Dangara, Khatlon region at the Plenary session of the International Economic Forum "Dangara - 2017" that was held on October 13, 2017.
The purpose of the forum was to present the economic potential and prospects for the development of the Khatlon region and free economic zones.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan with the support of the leadership of Khatlon region and development partners.
The forum was attended by First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Davlatali Said, Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan Nematullo Hikmatullozoda, heads of several relevant ministries and departments, the executive authority of the Khatlon region and Dangara, representatives of international organizations and diplomatic corps, and foreign and domestic entrepreneurs.
Representatives of the Administration of Sughd FEZ made a presentation at the Plenary session of the forum about the opportunities provided by FEZs to industrial enterprises.
The Exhibition of Tajik manufacturing products were started in Tashkent within the framework of the Days of Tajikistan in the Republic of Uzbekistan on October, 11 in 2017.
Professionally and beautifully designed pavilions show the full potential of Sughd FEZ.
Pavilions of subjects introduce visitors to a diverse assortment of products produced in one of the successful FEZs of Tajikistan. The pavilion of the Administration of Sughd FEZ presented all the necessary information for interested audiences.
The Business Forum of Entrepreneurs of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan was held in the afternoon of the same day. The Head of the International Department of the Administration of the Sughd FEZ Mirzoen Mirzomanon delivered a presentation on the potential of the free economic zones of Tajikistan.
The first day of the exhibition has already yielded results. Within the framework of the business program, a contract for $2.000.000 was signed for the mutual supply of construction materials between Kedr Association, which includes two subjects of the Sughd FEZ - Archa and Silkoat Boya, - and UzTrade, LLC.
Note that the exhibition will continue until October 13.
Deputy Political-Economic Section Chief of the Embassy of the United States of America to the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Andrew Bury officially visited Sughd Free Economic Zone on October 2, 2017.
The presentation on activities of FEZ was shown to Mr. Bury. During the presentation, some questions of interest to guest were discussed. In particular, issues of interrelation and cooperation between free zones of Tajikistan, Sughd free zone’s taken actions to foster industrial and export potential, support of medium businesses, development of economic relations with neighboring countries, as well as current challenges and obstacles to develop Sughd FEZ.
The Head of the Administration of Sughd FEZ Mr. Firdavs Olimzoda thanked the guest for the visit, noting the contributions of USAID to the development of Sughd FEZ and expressed his intentions in the further strengthening of cooperation with the international organizations regulated by the US Embassy in Tajikistan. In discussing the directions of bilateral cooperation Mr. Olimzoda emphasized the need to improve the expertise of the staff of Sughd free zone through the provision of trainings and seminars in the field of management and investment promotion.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. Bury pointed out that he would maintain contacts with the Administration of Sughd FEZ and for sure he will discuss all issues of the meeting with his colleagues upon his return to Dushanbe.
Tajprof LLC that specializes in the production of aluminum profiles has expanded the catalog of its products. The reason for this initiative, as noted in the company, was the growing demand for the aluminum profile, as well as the opening prospects for entering the Russian market. The new aluminum system provides better heat and sound insulation, air tightness and eliminates blowing. It should be noted that the company not only saturates the domestic market with various profile systems, but also successfully sells its products to Kyrgyzstan where it has a partnership agreement with AalamStroy, and to Turkmenistan.
In addition, another subject plans active cooperation with Russian partners. Silcoat Boya LLC, specializing in the production of paint and varnish products, is aimed to supply its products to the southern regions of the Russian Federation. As representatives of the company noted, at the moment it is expected to receive a quality certificate corresponding to the Russian State Standard. The company periodically expands the catalog of its products and some products are produced on the basis of local raw materials. The company's brand stores are open in almost all regions of Tajikistan.
Until the end of this year, Archa LLC plans to launch its production. The company will produce modern furniture for educational, medical and administrative institutions.
On June 20, 2017 the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade hosted an event on the creation of infrastructure for the implementation of high-tech projects. The format of the meeting was based on a bilateral nature in which the Russian party was represented by the Moscow Center for Structural Transformations of Industry, and the Tajik party was represented by technoparks at universities, free economic zones and relevant ministries and departments.
Opening the meeting, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan Umed Davlatzod introduced Director General of the Center Igor Titov and his Tajik colleagues.
Mr. Titov presented the activities of his organization after which the possible options for cooperation were proposed and discussed. Interest was expressed on the part of many participants in the work with the Center.
Following the meeting, a number of agreements were signed, in particular with the Administration of the Sughd FEZ that was presented by the Head of international cooperation and investment attraction department Mirzoyon Mirzomanon. The subject of the agreement was joint activities of the parties with a view to implementing innovation policy including the creation of infrastructure for the implementation of projects in the fields of high technologies.
It should be noted that the Moscow Center for Structural Transformation of Industry was established in 1994 by the Department of Science, Industrial Policy and Entrepreneurship of Moscow. Since 2016, the main objective of the Center has been to promote the development of the technoparks in Moscow, their foreign economic relations with foreign partners as well as the entry of Moscow enterprises into international markets.
On June 16-17, the IV International Trade Fair "Sughd-2017" was held in Khujand where more than 200 local and foreign entrepreneurs from all regions of Tajikistan attended the event as well as over 10 countries of the near and far abroad. In addition to traditional participants from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Poland, businessmen from Uzbekistan and Latvia came to the fair for the first time.
Traditionally, along with other producers of building materials, the subjects of Sughd FEZ : Tajprof, Archa, Silkoat Boya, Star Plast and Ravzan Plastik presented their products. Representatives of the subjects had the opportunity to negotiate with potential buyers and demonstrate a high level of product quality and a wide range of products.
The establishment of contacts was facilitated by the active participation of the Administration staff in the activities of the business program of the fair that have an experience of 8 forums of business circles and scientific conferences on topical issues of mutually beneficial cooperation. The presentation of Sughd FEZ was held within the framework of the business forum "Investment Potential and the Development of International Trade". Mirzoyon Mirzomanon, the Head of international department of the Sughd FEZ Administration provided investors with information on the opportunities and advantages of running business in Sughd FEZ. At the forum of business circles of Russia and Tajikistan Mirzoyon Mirzomanon presented the project of construction of the railway line “Spitamen-Sughd FEZ-Istiklol”.
In the fair, representatives of the FEZ Administration held talks with Belarusian and Chinese entrepreneurs on the possibilities of implementing their business projects on the territory of Sughd FEZ. In particular, projects on the production of auto spare parts and construction equipment were discussed.
On June 14, 2017 the OSCE Ambassador to Tajikistan Ms. Tuula Yrjölä who heads the OSCE Office since October 2016 visited Sughd FEZ.
The meeting was held within the framework of the official visit to Sughd region where the Ambassador met with the Chairman of the Sughd region Abdurakhmon Kodiri.
The Head of the Administration Firdavs Olimzoda greeted the guest and expressed his gratitude to the OSCE Office for the significant support that was made during the first stages of the Sughd FEZ establishment. "The OSCE, being a permanent partner of the FEZ, throughout its activities contributes to its (FEZ) development and support of initiatives," Olimzoda said.
The Ambassador acquainted with investment opportunities of Sughd FEZ. After the presentation, the current state of cooperation and prospects for further cooperation were discussed. The main subject of discussion was the needs of the Administration in international experts who would advise employees in attracting foreign investment by increasing their competence and knowledge.
Issues of cooperation at the regional level, in particular with the Republic of Uzbekistan, were also discussed. As the head of the Administration noted, the Government of Tajikistan is taking all measures to improve economic relations with neighboring countries. Recently visited Urgut Free Economic zone in Uzbekistan attracts a great interest for mutually beneficial cooperation.
It should be noted that in January this year the President of Uzbekistan signed a decree on the creation of four new free economic zones in Bukhara, Samarkand, Ferghana and Khorezm provinces called Gijduvan, Urgut, Kokand and Khazarasp which will operate for 30 years with the possibility of subsequent extension.
12.05.2017 On May 12 the delegation of the Parliament of the Republic of Dagestan has visited the Sughd free economic zone. This visit took place within the framework of the official visit of the head of Dagestan Mr. Ramazan Abdulatipov to the Sughd region.
The purpose of the visit of the Dagestan delegation to FEZ “Sughd” was to get acquaintance with the production and investment potential of the zone.
The guests were provided with information on the activities about FEZ and its investment projects.
During the visit, the guests were given an excursion to two large factories - Archa and Tajprof, which are equipped with modern equipment and produce high-quality products of international standards.
It should be noted that the head of Dagestan Ramazan Abdulatipov and the chairman of the Sughd region Abdurahmon Kodiri signed an agreement on trade, economic, scientific, technical and humanitarian cooperation between Dagestan and Sughd.
17.04.2017 On April 17 the representatives of the German Development Bank (KfW) in Tajikistan have visited a Technical College of Khujand - the subject of Sughd free zone.
The college officials provided the guests with information about the benefits and relevance of the college, where more than 300 students are currently studying.
While speaking about the purposes of their visit the guests noted that the KfW bank is undertaking initiation to support technical educational institutions in Tajikistan with aim of attracting young people from remote areas to obtain technical professions for their future better employment both inside the republic and abroad.
During the meeting various areas of support were discussed, in particular, assistance in building a dormitory, improving the technical equipment of the college and providing special literature. The possibility of opening of college's branch in Khatlon area, where there are no such educational institutions was discussed as well.
At the end of the meeting the parties agreed to continue negotiations and expressed their intention to study all the details of the meeting separately with their colleagues.
14.04.2017 Every year meetings with partners are held in the Administration of Sughd free zone, where plans of future cooperation and priority directions of activity are discussed.
Thus, on April 14, a meeting was held with the representatives of the United Nations Development Program in Tajikistan (UNDP). The purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues related to the implementation of the “Contribute to Trade” project.
As it was noted by the UNDP representatives the third phase of the project is being completed, where the main priority areas include the improving of the business environment and supporting entrepreneurship.
At the end of the meeting, the representatives of UNDP expressed their hope for the mutually beneficial cooperation with the aim of assisting to the improvement of business environment and staffing potential.
